About CFI

Certified Flooring Installers (CFI), is a non profit trade association devoted to flooring installers. Since 1993, CFI has provided training and certification for the industry through inspection, installation, estimating, product knowledge, patterned and woven carpet, hardwood, ceramic, laminate and resilient flooring training. CFI is recognized worldwide for training. Students from across the United States and many nations, including Japan, Brazil, Africa, China, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico have participated in the CFI method of training.

A brief history...

Eleven installers and one retailer from Kansas City, Sioux Falls, Kalispell and Detroit met in Sioux Falls, SD on September 18, 1993 with the purpose to organize an association dedicated to promoting the skills of the flooring installer. On November 15, 1993 the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association, Inc. (CFI) was incorporated in the state of Missouri as a non-profit trade association.

In 2015, CFI was acquired by the World Floor Covering Association in an effort to address the shortage of installation professionals in the field today. With the support of WFCA, CFI has opened two training facilities to date that offer apprentice programs for those new to the industry. CFI’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of installers and their families through sharing flooring installation training in a “hands-on” atmosphere, providing business skills and increasing pride and professionalism.
